Abstract

We discuss the problem of data collection in Institutional Research (IR) and issues in Digital Transformation (DX) at Japanese universities and report our solution for both.
IR conductors have faced the difficulty of data collection for a long time. Lack of data and low quality of data are crucial problems in data analysis. We have found that the root of the problems is hidden in administrative work and introduced the method of Business Process Management to overcome the problem. Investigating and analyzing the current working process leads us to understand the data set and flow. We suggest the improved process after the analysis and implement it into a web-based workflow system which allows us to aggregate and store well-defined data sets automatically and advances the efficiency of work. The improvement of working processes is considered digitalization in the phase of DX.
